Bio

Thanks for taking the time to listen to my work! I'm Josh, a game audio designer currently based in South Yorkshire, England. Playing music and video games defined the best parts of my childhood, therefore, I was enthusiastic to pursue a career that combined these passions. I also produce and perform Hip-Hop music, train in Muay Thai kickboxing, and I’m an avid Magic the Gathering card collector.

After completing an undergraduate degree in Popular Music (Leeds College of Music), I studied the MSc Sound and Music for Interactive Games course at Leeds Beckett University. I recently graduated receiving the Solid-State Logic Postgraduate award for technical achievement. During my studies, I also worked as a freelance dialogue editor at Pitstop Productions. Within this role, I have worked on some amazing games such as Baldur's Gate 3 (Larian Studios), F123 (EA Sports), and Rise of The Ronin (Team Ninja). At this stage of my career, I am looking for a sound design position to gain experience working on more amazing games. Implementation Reel

Last summer I spent more than a few evenings creating a science fiction stealth game called Time Freeze. The game was created in Unreal Engine 5 and Wwise. I decided to channel everything I learned during this project into an implementation demo reel. I became quickly aware that there was far too much content to cover in one video alone, therefore, I plan to release further editions to this video series soon.

In this video, I cover a range of subjects regarding the implementation of artificial intelligence (AI). I discuss how I designed and implemented the AI Behaviour model and how I utilised the AI perception system to create stealth mechanics. I will also describe the techniques used for designing and implementing the enemy sound systems, which were fundamental components used within a dynamic difficulty adjustment (DDA) system.

Field Recording

Over the years I have had the great pleasure of recording in some interesting locations for various projects. As a sound designer, I pride myself on using as much personally sourced audio material as possible. After a recording session, I will typically organise the files into a more manageable library of assets. This also consists of utilising a universal file naming convention when exporting media, which makes it much easier to locate the correct assets during my workflow.

This video is by no means a deep dive into my entire sound design process, but rather a peek into how the audio is sourced compared to how it is ultimately applied.
